Talk about a hard news story on a Monday morning…
Costs, among other things, are on the rise as the HSE have revealed they have paid just over €57 million on prescription medication like viagra since 2009.
To those of you who don’t know, that’s over 150 million erections…
According to the Irish Mirror, figures released under the Freedom Of Information Act show that €36.7 million was made up of medical card holders, while €15.5 million was spent on the erectile dysfunction pills under the Drugs Payment Scheme.
Another €4.8 million was spent on the medication for people with other illnesses such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis under the Long-Term Illness scheme.
The news comes in the wake of revelations that the HSE has overspent by €136 million in the first four months of the year.
But let’s not worry about our sexual prowess or the cost of it too much, because figures last year revealed that there was a considerable drop in the numbers of men receiving the medication last year, 6,000 to be more precise.
We can rest assured knowing that despite being up for a long time, that figure is finally starting to go down
