Going to the pharmacy is never cheap. A trip to the chemist in search of something to help ease your stress can suddenly get very stressful when you’re presented with a bill. So why be a pill popper if you don’t need to be?
If you’re feeling stressed out, mother nature (and top confectioner Mars) are on hand to help get you through the day. Certain foods contain properties that can do a lot for your mental well being, and these are foods that are readily available in your local supermarket…
Bananas
They taste good on their own, great in a milkshake or smoothie and aren’t too bad when served with custard. They also help the body to create melatonin, which promotes calmness and helps you get a good night’s sleep.
Milk
Minerals in a pint of the white stuff can help keep your blood pressure down to a healthy level. Milk is also a great source of protein.
Beef
A lean and juicy steak is packed full of zinc, iron and B vitamins. This combination is good to even out your mood throughout the day.
Oily fish
Research has shown that ingesting a decent amount of omega-3 fatty acids can lower hostile feelings by 20%. The best way to get your fix of the stuff is through fish such as tuna, mackeral and sardines.
Spinach
Eating your greens in general is good for you, but spinach in particular is a rich provider of the B vitamins which help produce ‘feel good’ hormones.
Peanut M&Ms
Seriously. It’s all about the endorphins that are released thanks to the chocolate and the protein in the peanuts. The combination of the two is great for helping you keep focused.
