This comes as no surprise.

There’s a brief few months after the Leaving Cert ends where you belief you’ll never have to deal with anxiety again… That is, until, you realise that college is somehow twice as hard.

So it’s no surprise to learn that, according to figures released by NUI Galway show that anxiety is the top concern for many of its students.

The report shows a dramatic increase in students seeking out the college’s counselling services in the last ten years.

1,187 students attended the university’s counselling service last year, more than double the amount that had attended the service in 2005-2006.

The report from NUIG’s Student Counselling Service showed that 72 percent of their visitors were struggling with anxiety issues.

This is a striking reminder that the country needs to buck up its ideas when it comes to helping young people with mental health problems.
