Well said Seth, very well said indeed.
One of the good thing about the fame that comes with celebrity is that it allows public figures to promote good causes and to be fair to them, famous people do their best to increase exposure of the charities with which they’re associated on a regular basis.
Comedy actor Seth Rogen yesterday appeared in front of a Senate Committee to talk about Alzheimer’s disease and in an eight-minute speech, he discussed the increase in the number of deaths from Alzheimer’s in the US in recent years, the financial burden put on families affected, the work carried out by his charity, Hilarity for Charity, and also included some moving testimony about the plight of his mother-in-law, who suffers from the disease.
Although it was an incredibly serious issue, Rogen managed to fit plenty of humour into his address by, for example, taking the p*ss out of his renowned public persona as a stoner, referencing the similarities between his audience and House of Cards and sharing a joke with the chairman about the first ever mention of ‘Knocked Up’ in such an environment.
Heartfelt, amusing, self-deprecating, but never moving away from the main issue at hand, it’s an excellent address and well worth spending eight minutes watching it in the video above.
