There are plenty of ways to get fit, from weight lifting to cardio and everything in between, and one piece of equipment that’s not often used are battle ropes. Not every gym has these, but if you’ve got a big thick rope lying around the house, then you’re pretty much sorted, or you can source fitness equipment from a number of different sources throughout Ireland, from Amazon to specialist stores.

This video comes via the very excellent Art of Manliness, which is a pretty great site where men can learn all about being a gent, from style to general tips about stuff that your aul fella or grandad used to do and we might have forgotten, but this time they turn their attention to fitness.

Battle ropes are a great piece of equipment for high intensity training, and allows you to really push your limits in a pretty short time frame. Plus, if you don’t believe they’re super manly (big f**k off ropes, come on, seriously) then have a look at the moustache on Brett McKay, that’s a man’s ‘tache.

He runs through plenty of different techniques that will have you breaking a sweat, from the traditional alternating slams to making the age-old classic jumping jacks that bit more difficult by throwing the ropes into the mix.
