Strong and very important words from the students of University College Cork.

It shouldn’t need to be said that rape is one of the most horrific crimes that a person can commit, but it is an issue that people remain uncomfortable talking about.

With that in mind, UCC Students’ Union (UCCSU) are leading a campaign called ‘Break the Silence’, which urges people to talk more openly about rape so that victims of such a horrendous crime will themselves feel more comfortable about opening up.

The campaign aims to tackle the social stigma that surrounds rape and to get rid of the shaming culture in Ireland by speaking about it more openly and creating an environment in which victims of rape can open up to a friend or family member.

It’s an admirable and important campaign by the UCCSU and for more information on it, check out the website and Facebook page.
