Warning issued to people who use air fryers more regularly than ovens

Owners are also being cautioned about one common mistake that almost everyone makes.

Experts have warned people who regularly use air fryers to make sure they clean their products.

Cleaning the fryer after every use is essential, as well as a monthly deep clean.

Despite what many air fryers may say, no part of the object is suitable for dishwasher use.

All of this advice comes from Dr Richard Anderson of High Speed Training, who told the Express: “It’s recommended that you give your air fryer a light clean after every use and a deeper clean every month, or every few uses if you regularly cook greasy foods.

“For a monthly deep clean, you’ll need to clean all the accessories and inside the appliance more thoroughly to remove burnt-on food, grease and odours.

“Even though some air fryers are labelled as dishwasher-safe, dishwashers can strip the non-stick coating on the air fryer components.

“For stubborn, baked-on grease, try filling the tray or drawer with water, drop in a dishwasher tablet and leave to soak overnight.

“Then, simply rinse clean the next day.”

A consistent routine is key and the best way to clean your air fryer is to use a damp cloth or sponge to clean off any grease from the heating element.

Rinse it in warm soapy water and continue until the heating coil is spotless.

A soft-bristled toothbrush can be used for harder grease spots.

Make sure the heating element is completely dry before using the fryer again.

If your air fryer has any built-in filters, they too will need a scrub. It’s best to refer to the instruction manual in those cases.
