The car dealers of Drogheda have decided to do something to reinvigorate the market by coming together under one roof for one special weekend.

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the main focus for the motor industry, and in particular for those thinking of buying a car, will be Drogheda, Co Louth – home to the Drogheda Motor Show.

For one weekend, the dealers in the town will gather to showcase more than 100 cars representing 18 brands and manufacturers in and around a large disused retail outlet that will be transformed into automotive nirvana for people who can’t resist the look, feel and drive of a new car.

“As dealers, we decided to come together in a show of unity and to show what a large, strong, vibrant collection of car dealerships we have here in Drogheda,” explains Ian Tolan, Sales Manager of McCabes, Drogheda’s authorised Toyota dealership.

“A fair bit of money and effort has gone into putting the motor show together. The scrappage deal has definitely lifted sales and kept people employed in the industry, even if it hasn’t had a major impact on profit.

“With scrappage ending, it’s important we keep the momentum up and show what great deals are still out there.”

McCabes will be showcasing the all-new Toyota Landcruiser in both short and long wheelbase form. Indoors, alongside the Landcruiser there’ll be Yaris, Corolla and Avensis, while outside there’ll be the chance to look at the Verso, the nippy little Aygo and the Prius, otherwise known as the best selling hybrid car in the world.

Over at Tom Fox Car Sales, the town’s authorised Honda and Suzuki dealership they’re looking forward to being the first in Ireland to offer a chance to get up close to Honda’s new CRZ, the world’s first sports hybrid vehicle.

Reconnect

“The last couple of years have been tough for the motor trade,” says Tom Fox’s Sales Director Ronan Fox. “The motor show gives us a great chance to let people know we’re still here. It gives us a great way to meet potential new customers and to reconnect with customers we’ve served in the past.”

Also taking part in the show will be dealerships representing Nissan, Fiat, Seat, Mitsubishi, Renault, VW, Audi,  Citroen, Kia, Ford, Opel, Saab, Mazda, Chevrolet and Peugeot.

For people looking to buy a car, and for car lovers generally, it offers a rare chance to see all these brands under one roof and to be able to compare and contrast exactly what’s on offer.

Admission to the event is free. It takes place at the Drogheda Retail Park on Donore Road from 1pm-8pm on Friday 5th, 10am-6pm on Saturday 6th and 12noon-5pm on Sunday 7th. For more details, check out the Drogheda Motor Show’s website at www.droghedamotorshow.ie
