Some 40 per cent of men are wandering the streets and offices of Ireland wearing suits that are the wrong size, a new study from Marks & Spencer has shown.

The clothing retailer commissioned a study of its suit-wearing customers as part of ‘Suit Fit Fortnight’; a campaign designed to encourage men to get properly fitted out before shelling out.

The study found that around 90 per cent of men own a suit, but that a quarter have never been fitted for one.

The poll also revealed that approximately 90 per cent of women may be put off by a man in a badly fitting suit.

M&S is encouraging men to get measured this Spring by offering a 15 per cent off voucher to those measured during ‘Suit Fit Fortnight’.

Getting measured for a suit at the clothing chain takes approximately ten minutes with suit advisors also suggests a colour and style depending on the purpose of the garment.

“We want men to look sharp and feel comfortable in our suits for all occasions,” Tony O’Connor, head of menswear design at M&S.

“Our suits are extensively wearer trialled on different sizes of men for fit and comfort and the feedback is incorporated into the development of every garment.”

Suit fit fortnight runs from 1-15 April in all M&S outlets. Click here for more info.
