7 reasons to be cheerful despite the fact that it’s Blue Monday

Tony Cuddihy

Blue Monday = marketing speak for the most depressing day of the year.

Of course, the whole concept depends on whether you work Monday to Friday and is probably a load of nonsense anyway, but for the purpose of this article let’s at least pretend the third Monday in January has us all in a funk.

There are plenty of reasons to be cheerful…

It’s the same year as the European Championships

House of Cards and Better Call Saul are both coming back soon

Netflix is the gift that keeps on giving. They’re just waiting for the last 1.2% of the population that hasn’t seen Making a Murderer yet to finish that up before bringing Saul and Frank back.

Better Call Saul returns for weekly instalments on 15 February, while we get the latest from the Frank and Claire Variety Hour (Fun For All The Family) from 4 March.

Supply is exceeding demand and diesel has fallen to under €1 per litre for the first time since 1735 or something. It’s all good news.

Now this IS good news. Saoirse Ronan, Michael Fassbender and Lenny Abrahamson are all up for major awards on February 28th and, while none of them is the favourite in any of their respective categories, we can but dream.

We’re only a few weeks away from a Conor McGregor fight

That’s right, just a few more weeks until we pretend to our friends/colleagues/countrymen that we managed to stay awake until 3.30 in the morning for eight seconds of action.
