There’s so much to do.
This weekend is an absolute whopper with Electric Picnic, the All-Ireland hurling final, the Dublin-Mayo replay and Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifers all happening.
If you’re not getting involved in any of that action, you can still have a savage weekend.
Here are eight reasons we think you should hit the open road this weekend.
1. Check out this amazing country of ours
There are stories every week about Ireland’s tourist attractions and sights being up there with the best in the world and we haven’t seen half of them.
If you head north, south, east or west you’ll find something people travel thousands of mile to see. It’s on our doorstep lads.
2. Road trips are so much fun
You, your buddies, some great tunes and the open road are a great combination. The craic will be ninety and you’ll all be in it together from start to finish.
Useful tip: Add some Travel Scrabble to really get things going. Don’t. That’s a joke. All the letters will end up on the floor.
3. Experience something different
Have you surfed in Lahinch? Have you tried paddleboarding in the Lakelands? Have you done the Ring of Kerry? Have you climbed Croagh Patrick? Have you kissed the Blarney Stone?
If you’re answer to all of those is “Yes” then good for you, but more than likely you haven’t. Go and tick one of them off the list.

4. Finding hidden gems
The beauty of hitting the road yourself is that you have so much freedom and like the old, famous and often-used saying goes “Ireland is your oyster”…
You don’t have to go on the main routes, you can go off the beaten track and that’s where you’ll find some hidden gems. There are lots of them around the country.
5. Driving
You can channel your inner Ryan Gosling in Drive and go for a proper spin while obviously staying within speed limits and the law. Let’s steer clear of those pesky penalty points.
6. Meeting New People
The great thing about heading away somewhere new with your mates is that you’ll bump into people outside your local pub and your social circle.
Also, think of all those potential Tinder matches. You might find the one.
7. The memories
Yeah, you could just stay at the home over the weekend and go out with your pals to the same pub and club you go to every other weekend.
BUT, you could get out of dodge and head somewhere new and then talk about “that gas weekend in [insert place]” for the rest of the year.
8. The Weather
We’ve been programmed to not trust any weather forecast at this stage but it’s supposed to be sunny and dry at the weekend.
If you consider it’s early September, there mightn’t be loads of sunshine left in the year so get out there and enjoy it.
