9 reasons you need to go to the Vodafone Comedy Carnival

Fancy a laugh?

JOE

The Wesht is awake and it’s laughing its ar*e off.

There’s more to Galway than Sp-Arching and the races. It also hosts some fantastic festivals that fly ever so slightly under the radar.

Among them is the Vodafone Comedy Carnival, which is coming to the city from October 20-26.

Here’s 9 reasons you should definitely go.

It’s on in Galway

This city doesn’t half do festivals. When they’re in, they’re all-in. Comedy acts from near and far will be invading the beautiful city and it’s going to be fantastic.

It’s the gig comedians love playing

Comedians love Galway. That is a fact. The dates of this festival are filed under ‘mad craic’ in most of their diaries.

There’ll be plenty of international talent

Rich Hall, Jason Manford, Phill Jupitus, Seann Walsh and Mike Wilmot, are just a few of the international superstars of comedy that will be taking to the stage in Galway. That’s an amazing line-up.

As well as some of the most recognizable stars of Irish comedy

Dylan Moran, Al Porter, Jason Byrne, Aprés Match and many more will be performing throughout the week.

Did we mention, our own Eric Lalor will be there

JOE’s resident funny-man will be on stage twice during the festival. If you haven’t seen him before, make sure you go along. You won’t be disappointed.

The best in rising talent

The festival is also a great way to stay abreast of who’s cracking the comedy scene here in Ireland. Steve Bennett is a particular favorite of ours. The Laois native provides the perfect cocktail of wit, energy and hairiness.

If musical comedy is your thing…

Then you should definitely go along to Beardyman and Abandoman. The latter’s interview with JOE is a must-watch for anyone interested in improvisation.

There’ll even be a ventriloquist or two…

Nina Conti is at the very top of her game. She’s reinventing the whole genre.

After, you can get grub in arguably the best chipper in the country

We can’t say fairer than that now, can we?
