This guy got some land when he went back to work.
Don’t write something on the internet that you won’t be able to stand over down the line, that’s the general rule for social media.
A guy from Florida is regretting a Facebook status he recently posted as he could end up in jail for five years because of it.
Ryan Pate, who’s a helicopter mechanic, let rip on his employers in the United Arab Emirates after a dispute over sick leave.
He says he can’t remember exactly what he said but the word “backstabbers” was used, and he warned people from doing business with them.
He’d forgotten all about the whole thing until he arrived back in the UAE and was asked to report to a police station.
There he was shown screengrabs of what he said and was arrested for breaking an Emirates law on slandering his employer.
He spent 10 days in jail, but it out on bail now. His court case is on March 17 and if convicted he could face up to five years in jail.
Moral of the story: Be careful what you post online (especially if you work in the Emirates).
