Driving can be a scary experience for newcomers. Especially when you’re four years old and driving a plastic car through a supermarket.
When you’re behind the wheels you’re basically manning a two tonne missile while other people (of varying intelligence) are also manning two tonne missiles all around you. So you can see why some people might not be too happy.
Volkswagen capture this perfectly in their 2012 advert for the all new Passat. A mother pushes her child through a supermarket as he sits in a plastic car attached to the trolley (where were they when we were kids?).
The kid is confronted with a lot of the dangers that often face ‘real’ motorists such as being cut off by fellow ‘road users’, facing oncoming traffic and getting rear ended by some snot nosed kids.
But when all is said and done the child retires to the all new Passat where he feels safe and comfortable.
After watching the video for a while you start to sense they may have ripped off a scene or two from The Shining, what with the frightened looks and those twins, but that makes it even better.
