Ah here. Tins of Roses and Miniature Heroes are about to get even smaller this Christmas

Somebody stop this madness

If they tamper with the selection box, there’ll be hell to pay.

We’re all for healthy eating, but at Christmas time, it goes out the window a little and it’s perfectly natural to indulge in food and drink for a week or so before starting afresh in January.

Cadbury’s Roses are a staple of many an Irish home at Christmas time, which is why you’ll be saddened to hear that, for the second time in less than five years, they’re making the tin smaller.

In 2011, a tin of Roses was downsized from a hefty 975 grams to 850 grams.

Because of ‘economic factors,’ Mondelez, the US-based owner of Cadbury’s, will be taking 50 grams off the gross weight of a tin of Roses, which will now weigh 729g, and nearly 100 grams off a tin of a Miniature Heroes, which will go from 780 to 695g.

Despite the reductions in the weight of the products, the prices are likely to remain the same.

Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Mondelez brand manager Steve Chick told The Grocer: “We are under pressure to ensure tubs are great value and are convinced the changes we have made to the mix of chocolates ensures they remain so.”

It’s not all bad news, however, as the Wispa will be added to the Miniature Heroes box, news which will go down particularly well on this side of the world we reckon.
