An exceptional piece about why this Irish man gave up drink for a year

Tony Cuddihy

This is so well written.

A young Irishman behind the Facebook community #Year No Beer has written evocatively about his reasons for giving up drink for an entire calendar year.

He writes about the influence of his father, the strength of their relationship, and his devastation in 2007 when his dad took his own life.

He goes on to write about his fear of drink, and how he decided to show it who was boss rather than have it take over his life.

“I hated alcohol but I loved the session. I was very aware that it was literally in my genes to love the sauce a bit too much, and even though I’d started to really turn things around for myself I was always conscious of what drinking had done to my father and what I knew it had to potential to do to me. I wanted to be stronger than that.”

A very important piece.

#YearNoBeer #Day355I suppose in all honesty, I did it because I was afraid.I’m often asked why I decided to do this,…
