There was yet another recall in the motoring world today as BMW announced they were pulling in 1.3 million of their cars worldwide.
Hate them or love them, BMW’s are generally a fairly reliable car. They’re powerful, stylish and sophisticated, however, they can often attract a certain type of driver. There’s even a website devoted to jokes about BMW’s and their drivers, but if you currently own a BMW you certainly won’t be laughing today.
According to a press statement released by the German automaker, 1.3 million cars worldwide may be affected by a battery problem that in extreme cases could cause a fire. The recall affects 5-Series and 6-Series models built between 2003 and 2010, which means 8,500 motorists will have to make the trip to their local BMW garage over the coming days.
“In order to carry out a quality measure, BMW is recalling all BMW 5 and 6 Series models of the previous generation, built between 2003 and 2010 and still on the market, for repair at authorised dealers,” said a spokesperson.
BMW are staying pretty cool about the whole situation saying the work that has to be carried out ‘isn’t a big job’ and that ‘it can be completed in around 30 minutes’.
So what exactly is wrong with your BMW? Well, according to the company’s service department, there’s a battery connection that could come loose and result in your car failing to start. In “extreme cases” the battery could actually catch fire, which we assume could potentially see your car explode in your face… and you certainly wouldn’t want that now would you?
