Boo!!! The cheating husband on 4FM was all an elaborate hoax

There are some red faces today

Tony Cuddihy

“I think you’ve done enough damage, Michael.”

The words of 4FM presenter Niall Boylan, who thought he was speaking to a man who had admitted on national radio that he had cheated on his wife with many of her friends.

Well, it turns out it was all a hoax, courtesy of Dublin man Michael McLoughlin.

Michael told the Examiner that he hadn’t planned to go so far with it, but the prank took on a life of its own when social media took over.

Yes, we fell for it too.

“I actually wanted to talk about the previous topic, which was about jobs. I wanted to say I had gotten three jobs in the past three months but they moved on so I chatted about the new topic, which was about defending people having affairs,” Michael says.

Not planned

“It wasn’t a planned prank, I just came up with it on the spot.

“Niall asked if I’d tell on a friend if I knew he was cheating so I said no, sure haven’t I had three affairs myself. It just exploded from there.”

And as for the women who went on air?

“They were all friends of mine that rang up. I rang a few of them and they were more than happy to help me out with it.

“I couldn’t believe some of the abuse I was getting about it on social media. Reading the comments on Facebook I was shocked people actually fell for it. That’s why I rang my friends and got them to involved too when the Niall Boylan Show asked me to go back on air.

“People will believe anything.”
