The first votes are in and we now have the shortlist for the Continental Irish Car of the Year awards and the categories that they’re being awarded in.
The top 10 finalists for the Continental Irish Car of the Year 2012 come from seven different manufacturers as Ford, Kia and Mercedes-Benz all have two separate cars considered good enough for the top spot.
Here are the ten finalists in their respective categories:

Ford C-Max
Ford Focus
Continental Irish Family Car of the Year 2012:
Hyundai i40
Peugeot 508

Continental Irish Executive/Luxury Car of the Year 2012:

Continental Irish Performance car of the Year 2012:

In order to pick a winner, 24 voting members of the Irish Motoring Writers’ Association assessed each vehicle, attributing points on the basis of criteria. This criteria included innovation and safety, space, comfort, build quality, driving quality and value for money.
Speaking to the Offaly Express, IMW Judge Huge Maguire said, “I for one will find it a difficult choice this year. All the shortlisted cars are very good in their own segment.”
