Want to know what you’ll be wearing next winter? Hint: it’s not stripes. In one of the more bizarre catwalk shows of Milan’s Menswear Fashion Week, Vivienne Westwood unveiled what she hopes will be one of the biggest selling trends for Fall/Winter 2012: David Attenborough chic. We’re not even joking about this.
At her catwalk show, Dame Westwood sent male models off down the runway to be judged by a host of journalists and fashion professionals, with slicked back hair, hilarious handlebar moustaches and fake beards covered in snow and icicles. The idea? To pay homage to documentary series Frozen Planet, narrated by David Attenborough. Okay…
But, Vivienne claims she had a good reason for throwing fake snow at her models. The Telegraph reports that the designer was apparently frustrated to learn that the final episode of the series – where David explains that humans are responsible for the ice melt – will not be aired in the United States.
You want to know the most disturbing thing? This level of “eccentric” is actually quite normal by Westwood standards. Really.
So what else does this look (which is already being hailed as genius, by the way) involve? Well aside from not shaving for the next six months, you should pick up some brogues, old man slippers, wet-effect blouses (yes, blouses to give that ‘nautical’ vibe – think frozen pirate…) ripped jumpers and, if you’re looking for something to cruise around town in, look for a sharply cut suit and a pair of glossy black shoes – the walking stick is optional, of course.
Milan Menswear Fashion week showcases all the upcoming trends for the Fall/Winter 2012 season. It’s running until January 18th. We can’t wait to see what other crazy concoctions spring up over the next two days…
