Here’s the news we’ve all been dreading (but half expecting): Beer pong may be a danger to your health.

According to scientists from Clemson University, South Carolina, beer pong is absolutely repulsive and it could even be a danger to your health – and they’re not just talking about this video. Looks like a flight of stairs isn’t a beer ponger’s biggest enemy after all…

In fact, the most dangerous part of playing beer pong has nothing to do with the beer itself.

The dangers lie on the floor, along with all the dirt and gunk that you and your dog drag in from the outside world.

A group of researching students from Clemson U. tracked various games of beer pong across campus over a weekend and found some startling results. The students found “the most extra bacteria” – 3 million tiny organisms – on balls being used in an outdoor beer pong game. A ball being used in a game played on carpet had 200 bacteria on it, reports the Houston Chronicle.

While outbreaks of beer pong sickness isn’t an epidemic (yet), playing the game the usual way carries unnecessary risk, according to food science professor Paul Dawson.

“Ninety per cent of bacteria are probably harmless, but by virtue of sheer numbers, you’re taking a chance of getting sick,” he said.
