Expectations: The party-pad is ready to go. Non-stop party time has arrived and you’re at the epicentre of the buzz.
Reality: Your housemate has a lecture at 8am. You’ve got no money. The neighbours complained the last time you had 3 guests around for quiet chats.
It’s official, the ‘party-pad’ was named ironically.
Expectations: No more nagging from your parents for you to clean up your room.
Reality: Two words to send shivers through anyone who has ever shared a living space – CLEANING ROTA. You thought your nagging parents was bad, try dealing with a passive aggressive clean freak from Donegal.
Expectations: Finally, you’ll have your own personal space where you can keep all your worldly possessions.
Reality: The foundation was laid when you said “of course you can borrow some of my milk.” Now your housemate assumes what’s yours, is his.
If we were you, we’d only ever meet the girlfriend at HER place.
Expectations: You’ll be fine doing your own laundry. You’re pretty sure how the washer works.
Reality: Psst… mate, that’s not the washing machine you’re putting your boxers in, it’s the oven. Worry not, we’re pretty sure you’re allowed to bring laundry home until you’re in your mid-forties.
Expectations: You won’t miss any home comforts. You’re a strong independent person.
Reality: Remember when a bowl of Cheerios wasn’t seen as a nutritious dinner. Or, by magic, the house suddenly became clean and all your clothes were washed.
Those were the days. The days before you left home.
