The world is about to turn green.
St Patrick’s Day is almost here and the whole world is about to become officially Irish for 24 hours.
Don’t be sceptical. We know it sounds crazy, but trust us.
From Shanghai to Saggart, there will be parades, festivities and a very high level of Irishness… actually, we’re not sure if Saggart has a parade, but you get the point.
Here are five foreign shores that are hosting St. Patrick’s Day parades…
Japan
Our research threw up loads of parades scattered around Japan.
Kyoto, Takamatsu, Chiba and Nagoya to name just a few.
Yet, no matter how much research we did, we still couldn’t figure out what that crazy tiger was doing behind St Patrick in the picture below.
Hawaii
When you’re standing on O’Connell Street and the rain comes bucketing down, think of the poor people at the St Patrick’s parade in wonderfully-sunny Waikiki who are trying to recreate a true Irish experience.
Moscow
On March 17 in Moscow, the Red Square becomes green and everyone named Pavel will suddenly be called Paddy.
Arkansas
When JOE thinks of American St Patrick’s day parades, it’s Chicago, Boston, Washington and New York that come to mind.
Arkansas is definitely not near that list.
But they do have a parade that has hit the record books.
It’s the world’s shortest St Patrick’s Day parade as it takes place on the 98-foot-long Bridge Street and, understandably, the locals are incredibly proud of it.
The West Indies
Not only do they have a St Patrick’s day parade in Montserrat, they also have a place called Kinsale, a national holiday for the day and locals who talk like they’re from West Cork.
It truly is an Ireland away from Ireland.
All these guys will be making the most of the long weekend and so should you. Pop down your local Centra where they have everything you need to make the most of St Patrick’s Day, from green ice cream cones to delicious party food.
