It’s pretty straightforward to give your hair a sleek, smart Mad Men makeover. Just pick the right products and follow JOE’s styling tips.

Looking like the guys from Mad Men is easier now then ever. Thankfully, the shaggy Russell Brand look is finally falling out of favour and the perfect slicked back look is all in.
Here are just a few of our tips on the right products and how to get the perfect 1950s look.
It’s vital to go with the right product, and we would advise using something such as Mop Pear detangler spray (250ml for €11.63) to make the hair easier to comb back, to flatten the hair and to make it generally more manageable.
You next need to use a fairly decent amount of gel and continue to comb to the style desired.
The amount of gel used depends on the style you are going for: if you’re aiming to create a quiff, then you’ll need a smaller amount than if you’re planning to slick the hair back and keep it in place. We’d recommend American Crew Firm Hold Gel (250ml for €10.56).

Salvatore Romano does it best
Having combed the hair in order to style it into shape, it’s best to use a hairdryer to keep the shape in place unless you’ve got a free couple of hours for the gell to dry before heading out into the Irish weather. Just make sure to dry with the shaped style and not go against the hair or you won’t get the right look.
If you want to have a softer look to your hair then mix the hair gel with some styling cream (such as American Crew Grooming Cream, 85g for €12.65). Yet if you feel your hair is more stubborn, then apply a mix of wax in (American Crew Classic Wax, 100g for €12.65) to help hold it into place.
The best way to apply the wax is to warm it a bit in your hands with a hairdryer as this will stop the wax from clumping in your hair and causing you to end up with a matted look.
