Houston, we have a problem… JOE takes a look at five strange conspiracy theories

On this day back in 1969, American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon, so to commemorate the occasion we’ve picked out our top five weird conspiracy theories.

On this day back in 1969, American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon – or at least that’s what The Man tells us – so to commemorate the occasion we’ve picked out our top five weird conspiracy theories.

It’s hard to believe that mankind first walked on the moon 45-years ago today, but what’s even harder to believe is the fact that there are quite a few people out there who believe that it was all faked by the US Government.

That’s why we’ve decided to crack out our trusty (and somewhat crusty) tinfoil hats in order to bring you five of JOE’s favourite conspiracy theories…

Denver Airport

One of the stranger conspiracy theories that we’ve ever come across involves the Queen, the Nazis and an international airport in Denver, Colorado. According to the conspiracy, the Denver International Airport (DIA) was built by the New World Order, which is a secret society formed of all the world’s leaders and celebrities, who intend to use it as a safe HQ when all of the peasants start revolting.

Here’s a look at just one of the weird paintings that line the walls of the airport…

It is certainly one of the stranger conspiracies, and it just happens to be perfectly summed up in the video below.

Titanic

According to a very select group of people (who probably don’t get out enough), the Titanic never actually sank. Nope. The ship that is currently sitting at the bottom of the Atlantic ocean is, in FACT, the Titanic’s sister ship, the Olympic.

Apparently, the Titanic was disguised as the Olympic in the weeks leading up to the ship’s ill-fated maiden voyage and was sunk on purpose as part of an insurance scam. You can find out much more about this very believable theory in Robin Gardiner’s book Titanic: The Ship That Never Sank?

Alternatively, you could just read the very convincing synopsis on Wikipedia.

The Hand of Henry

Call it wallowing in self-pity, or call it the most incredible injustice the sporting world has ever seen, but according to some people, the ‘Hand of Henry’ was itself a conspiracy by FIFA to ensure France would make it into the World Cup.

Here’s what Sean “The FBI are onto me” St. Ledger had to say about the incident back in 2011:

“Afterwards, everyone was talking about conspiracy theories, could it be corrupt?” he said in an interview with The Guardian.

“And with the stuff that has happened at FIFA recently, you just never know. That question will never be answered.”

“I’m a big believer in fate.”

“It was a huge injustice in Paris but who knows? We might get one ourselves this time. I won’t be complaining. I’ll be a complete hypocrite.”

JOE will be the first to admit that calling the ‘Hand of Henry’ a legitimate conspiracy theory is clutching at straws, but it’s better than believing that the French deserved to win that particular match.

Malaysia Airlines Fight MH370

One of the most recent international incidents to have the tinfoil hat brigade stroking their neck-beards with joy was the disappearance of Malaysian Airlines Fight MH370.

Back in April we listed off some of the theories of what many believed actually happened to the plane, including the idea that it was accidentally shot down by North Korea – you can read more about that here.

However, some of the stranger theories included the plane being hijacked by aliens who then took it to the moon, while others say it was a victim of the Bermuda Triangle – which is nowhere near where the plane reportedly crashed.

The Moon Landing

Last, but by no means least, is the Moon Landing Conspiracy Theory. Many people believe that the entire event was set up and recorded by NASA on a movie set somewhere in the Nevada desert.

One bloke, named Bart Sibrel, even went as far as to confront Buzz Aldrin about the ‘fake’ moon landing. Needless to say, Buzz wasn’t taking any crap from a non-believer…

So that’s it from us and our conspiracy theories, for now, so sit back, relax and keep your tinfoil hats close by at all times. You never know when you’ll need it.
