This is how to write the perfect Christmas card

We love receiving Christmas cards…

Whether it’s a seasons greetings from a friend, family member or a business, it’s impossible not to smile when you open up a festive envelope to find a jolly yuletide message instead.

1. Make sure you have the right address…

… and that they don’t live with their sadistic aunty and uncle.

2. Make sure you have a nice pen

You can send the most profound and touching message imaginable, but it’s not going to be the same if it looks like it’s been written with pencil and dirt.

Surprise yourself and your loved ones by splashing out on a nice pen and fancy paper.

Just beware of smudging.

 3. Homemade cards show how much you care…

… but they’re also incredibly labour-intensive. Nobody’s going to be upset if you send them a nice store-bought one.

4. Get in touch with your muse

Channel your creativity into something great.

You’ll start out thinking you’re Dickens, but before too long you’ll be limping towards the finishing line…

 5. Limit news of your family to one paragraph

A comprehensive missive about your family is interesting to one person: you.

Don’t get us wrong; if you’ve moved house or gone on a nice holiday, let us know, but limit your characters.

Likewise, if you have children, it’s considered polite to name-check them, but please don’t go into any further detail about their dull hobbies and minuscule achievements.

Unless one of your family members won a prestigious award or married into royalty or committed a high-profile crime, nobody’s going to bemoan a short card.

6. Be sincere

Christmas is the time of year where we let those we love know we care about them.

Don’t be afraid to show a bit of emotion. Thank the friend who helped you out. Say hello to the mate you’ve not seen for a long time.

Also, don’t forget the stamp. The stamp is important. It’s really handy to get your stamps online here.

7. Give yourself plenty of time to send your cards

Make sure you post your Christmas cards on time this year. You can find out the final days for posting here.
