Is Amsterdam something of a clichéd location when it comes to a stag weekend away? Probably. Is it still worth a visit? Absolutely.
Yes, so Amsterdam is as predictable a stag location as clogs and temperamental footballers are predictable Dutch stereotypes, but there is a reason why the biggest city in the Netherlands is as popular as it is.
Mention Amsterdam in conversation and people will immediately have a perception about the place but the best way to make up your own mind about it is to visit it yourself.
Culture vultures might fancy a visit to the Van Gogh museum, the impressive Amsterdam Arena is only a couple of metro stops away from the city centre for football fanatics and considering that stag parties will probably spend a lot of time consuming the product, the Heineken brewery isn’t a bad place to get the weekend off on the right track.
There are fewer more lively places on the continent when the sun goes down than Amsterdam, making it an ideal location for a gang of lads in search of a good time, but it also has plenty of an appeal from an Irish tourist’s perspective.
For starters, it’s an hour and a half in a plane from Dublin Airport and only a further 17 minutes from the airport into the city. Consider the drive to Galway from Dublin, you will have had at least three drinks in Amsterdam before you would have arrived in Eyre Square!
Thanks to Flexibletrips, it’s dead easy to get there too. Thomas Cook’s dynamic package brand Flexibletrips allows customers to book flights, hotels or holiday packages and with millions of hotels and destinations to choose from, it’s perfect for weekend breaks or for those that want to organise their own holiday this summer.
Flexibletrips have up to seven flights a day operating directly from Dublin and Cork (less chance of missing it… it is a stag party after all) and rock bottom rates at hundreds of hotels so creating a package is so easy.
Two nights at a three-star hotel around DAM Square in September will cost around €237 including all taxes and even breakfast if you make it back to the hotel in time.
For more information on the deals on offer for Amsterdam and various other locations, check out the Flexibletrips website or call 01 514 0349. Although we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it ourselves, no doubt one of your touring party will end up packing this in their luggage.
