If you apply the ‘five second rule’ after dropping food, this won’t make for good reading

It’s all a myth according to science.

The ‘Five Second Rule’ has been around as long as we can remember.

It can come in handy for people who have poor eye-hand coordination or “droppers” as they’re commonly known.

That rule is a myth according to scientists at the RMIT University in Melbourne.

They say it doesn’t matter how quickly you pick something up off a dirty surface, bacteria will already have swarmed your food.

It’s all explained in this video from RMIT University.

They did say that bacteria thrive on moist food so dryer items like crisps and biscuits might not be as bad. The rule though is not to risk it and throw the food out.

Try telling that to a broke college student one week before the grant comes out though.
