Irish people just can’t resist leaving their favourite wooly jumper behind when going on holidays, as over 15 per cent have incurred extra charges for exceeding their baggage allowance in the last year.
It’s not a cheap habit either as the average extra fee comes in at €55 per person.
In total, a whopping €28 million of additional charges were imposed on Irish travellers over the last 12 months, according a recent survey commissioned by lastminute.com.
“We might all be on the lookout for cheap holiday deals but it seems we’re not being quite so cost conscious when it comes to packing,” said Mark Maddock, managing director of lastminute.com, UK and Ireland.
“Gone are the days when it was possible to take the kitchen sink on holiday. Today’s holidaymakers need to keep it lean and pack light in order to avoid extra charges.”
