There’s no better feeling in the world than knowing your house and your family are nice and safe from intruders. That’s why you need to check out this energy saving security gadget.

How would you feel knowing that anyone with half a brain is going to steer clear of your house for fear of being caught by a high-powered security light? Now, how much better would you feel knowing that your high-powered security light isn’t draining your electricity? You’d feel pretty good we bet, so that’s why we chose the Solar Centre Evo56 Solar Security Light as this week’s energy-saving gadget of the week.

The Solar Centre Evo56 Solar Security Light features 56 high-powered LED bulbs that produce an incredible amount of light. Think Old Trafford on a Champions League night crossed with the alien invasion bit from Close Encounters of the Third Kind and you’re on the right track. The burglars will be blinded (literally blinded, as Jamie Redknapp might say) before they have a chance to step foot on your property. Sounds good to us.

Now, how does it work? Well, the Evo56 uses a 2W solar panel that charges a high capacity battery during the day, which then illuminates when it detects motion at night. The Evo56 security lights can be placed anywhere outside allowing you to light up any area of your property without having to fork out loads on a third-party contractor to do the work for you. Sorry, to half-heartedly do the work for you.

What’s cool about the Evo56 is that you can adjust the sensor so that the light will shine constantly for up to 80 seconds. However, if you’re a bit of a light sleeper you can always adjust the light so that it lasts only for 10 seconds (insert smutty innuendo here).

The solar panel on the Evo56 can be mounted as far as five metres away from the actual light, so making sure it’s positioned in the optimum position should be fairly straightforward.

Getting the angle right can be pretty important

Mounting the solar panel correctly will mean it can do all the hard work all year round with very little maintenance. Firstly you must have the solar panel facing south (or as near as possible) and you have to accommodate for the position of the sun throughout the year. This means adjusting the angle of the panel when the seasons change, so the clever thing to do would be to position it somewhere that’s fairly accessible. All that might seem like a little extra work, but it’s definitely worth it.

The Solar Centre Evo56 Solar Security Light is the perfect energy saving device for the safety conscious or anyone who just want’s to look after what’s important to them.

You can purchase the Evo56 over on the Electric Ireland Online Store for €91.48. Not bad considering you’ll never have to run the light through the mains, so it will be paying for itself in jig time, as well as keeping the wolves from the door.
