Last weekend, the lads at the Irish Karting Club held an open day at the Whiteriver Park in Co. Louth where complete novices were given the chance to test out a real racing kart.
If you rock up to a karting track on any given day of the week you’ll be given a fairly unimpressive motor that has very little power. However, if you’re looking for something a lot more powerful, and ten times as exciting, then you should check out how to get involved in some real racing with the Irish Karting Club. You can find out everything you need to know about karting, from buying a kart to joining a club, over here.
Recently, JOE was invited down to Whiteriver Park, Co. Louth, for a go in a Super 4 class kart, which was given to us by the incredibly kind Mick Dunnion. The karts run on a 4-stroke 250cc engine with an electric start and while this is a low maintenance senior class, competition levels are high with many experienced and mature drivers. Top speeds in the Super 4 class are around 120kph and the grip that the karts can generate is absolutely phenomenal.
You’ve never truly experienced karting until you try a real race-ready kart. It’s an incredibly exciting experience and it’s one you’ll want to try again and again once you have your first go. It’s a great way to get into a motorsport that’s cheaper than most others and drivers can start out from as young as 8-years-old, so even if you can’t you can still get your kids involved.
