There’s almost nothing as bad as asking a friend when her baby is due, only for her to tell you she’s not pregnant…
It’s always a touchy subject when you’re addressing anyone’s weight, but in particular talking about that of your female friends will have you in huge trouble.
That’s why it’s always a good idea to steer clear of the whole topic as a general piece of ad ice, but sometimes you’ll ask you friend that fateful question which can land you in the most awkward situation you’re likely to find yourself in: asking her when the baby is due.
There are a few tell-tale signs that a woman is pregnant which can help you to guess and make sure that you’re not flying head first into a disaster, one of the main ones being that she will mention it regularly, because we are led to believe that it’s not a hugely pleasant experience.
If it does occur to you to ask though, it’s always a wise idea to avoid addressing the issue until you’ve checked up with their social media activity to see if you can confirm or deny the whole thing first, it could be just another of your crackpot ideas. Get into detective mode and check back through the posts to see if there’s been any mention of a new addition to the family, or strange cravings for food, then you can like or comment on the post, showing you’re concerned for your friend’s well-being.
If however, you do venture the question, and it turns out that she’s not having a baby, the best piece of advice we can offer you is to try and cover your tracks and claim that you meant another baby, like Beyonce’s child with Jay-Z or whatever the latest celebrity couple is, because she’s normally the friend that keeps you up to date with all the latest goings on in Hollywood, and you’re really interested in it.
If you get stuck in that situation, reach for a Deep River Rock, stay hydrated and just remember this sage piece of advice: no one gets offended when you don’t ask when the baby is due, but they get hugely offended if you ask when there’s no baby involved. Or also if the baby has already been born and is in the pram. That’s a pretty awkward situation too.
