Our good mates over at Volkswagen gave us a loan of a beastly VW Toureg for the day so we could have a chat with last year’s The Voice of Ireland winner Pat Byrne.
We recently took Ray Heffernan out for a spin around Dublin in Jonny Sexton’s Toureg and we had so much fun we decided to take the Co. Carlow man Pat Byrne out for a spin too.
Pat won last year’s The Voice of Ireland and to him it came as quite the surprise. You can listen to Pat’s story in the video above. Pat also plays a few tunes along the way, including ‘Let Her Go’ by the Passengers and his own tune ‘All or Nothing’ which comes from his debut album of the same name.
Pat started out playing drums at 8-years-old and continued to play in bands right up to his late teens, but after learning to play the guitar he started taking to the pub scene as a solo artist.
It was actually his missus that entered him into The Voice of Ireland competition and he saw it as more of an opportunity to get his name out there than anything else. It’s a great story and one that will definitely want to make you dust off your old guitar.
You can find out loads more info about Pat on his website PatByrne.ie and you can buy his debut album ‘All or Nothing’ over on iTunes now.
