According to the Hotels.com Hotel Price Index (HPI) the UK capital beat the New York into second while Paris rounded off the top three.

Barcelona and Rome also remain firm favourites amongst the Irish, making the top five list in fourth and fifth place respectively.

It would also seem that Irish travellers have a particular fondness for the US with a number of US cities featuring in the top 20. Las Vegas came in sixth, San Francisco ninth, Orlando fifteenth, Boston sixteenth and Chicago eighteenth.

Closer to home, Dublin was ranked as Ireland’s favourite home grown holiday spot. The bi-annual index revealed that the Fair City is number one on the list for Irish people holidaying at home.

Cultural hot spot Galway took the number two spot while Cork ranked third. Limerick City and the picturesque town of Killarney took fourth and fifth place to make up the most popular domestic destinations.
