Meet the Mercedes-Benz concept that’s causing a storm in L.A.

The Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force Concept has finally been unveiled at the Los Angles Motor Show over in the US. So have a gander at the beast for yourself...

Every year, the Los Angles Motor Show tests car manufactures and designers to their limits with the show’s ‘Themed Design Challenge’. This year, the theme was “Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025” and it has conjured some weird and wonderful creations.

One of the most striking concepts to come from the show has to be the Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force Concept… just look at it.

The vehicle draws on the G-Wagen (G-Class) design and the futuristic looking SUV would allow police officers to tail the bad guys both on the highway and on rocky terrain.

A design team at the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studio in California developed a fuel-cell drive system that only produces H2O as waste… that’s water to you and me. This water waste can then be recycled within the vehicle for use as a windscreen wash and the likes. More importantly, the waste water can also be used to replenish the fuel cells while the car is still moving.

Instead of powering the car with one big, bulky electric motor, Mercedes-Benz has actually gone for four in-wheel motors and this helps to keep the Benz Ener-G-Force’s curb weight under control.

The Benz Ener-G-Force has a load of cool techy pieces on board such as the Terra-Scan system. A row of sensors found just below the windshield scan the terrain for the best possible route for both comfort and performance, which we have to admit is pretty cool.

Now, while the Ener-G-Force Concept is just that, a concept, it doesn’t mean we won’t see any of the cool technological features it has to offer in the not too distant future.

Manufacturers are already using Terra-Scan-like systems for reverse parking monitors so it’s only a matter of time before they start putting those sensors on the front of cars too, in order to gauge the road ahead.

All that’s left to do now it to drool over the Ener-G-Force Concept…
