Here’s a video of the new McLaren MP4-12C as it runs rings around the Nürburgring, literally.
McLaren has always produced amazing, mind-blowing, wallet swallowing cars and the new MP4-12C is no different. Manufacturers regularly take their new motors to the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, a 21km stretch of track that features everything from long doglegs to sweeping hairpin turns.
The Nordschleife track is the one open to the public throughout the year and it is synonymous with amateur ‘wana-be’ race car drivers who end up totalling their cars, as we’ve seen here.
However, McLaren are no amateurs and that’s obvious as the MP4-12C, with its 3.8 litre V8, 592 horsepower engine, was able to lap the Nordschleife in an impressive time of 7:28. For a comparison, remember back to the Top Gear when Clarkson lapped the Nordschleife in a Jaguar S-Type in just under ten minutes? Oh, and the Jag is one pretty quick car.
The McLaren’s lap time slots in behind those of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and the Gumpert Apollo Sport, and just in front of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Carrera GT.
The one reservation we have about the video is the fact that we don’t get to see the entire lap. Instead we get a montage of footage, but that’s ok. Even Rocky had a montage.
