Penguin Books soon lived to regret a Twitter campaign using the hashtag #YourMum today

Facepalm

How anyone thought this is a good idea is beyond us.

For quite a while now, major brands have recognised the importance of Twitter and how it can be used to engage with potential customers.

That said, many of them still seem incapable of grasping how Twitter actually works; you only have to witness the amount of ill-judged footballer Q and As that have taken place in recent years to realise that fact.

Today, Penguin Books thought it would be a good idea to encourage interaction with their Twitter followers by dishing out gift advice for Mother’s Day using the hashtag #YourMum.

How nobody at Penguin failed to realise that the use of ‘Your Mum’ in a sentence is one of the oldest jokes in the book is beyond us, but they soon had an overwhelming wave of inevitable immaturity coming their way.

In fairness, they asked for it.

Did Penguin do this deliberately, knowing full well the publicity it would generate?

We have our doubts and so did this guy…

In any case, somehow we doubt we’ll be seeing #YourMum tomorrow.

Who are we kidding, of course we will! #YourMum
