A lot of people will be able to relate to this.

Marriage equality is a major talking point in Ireland at the moment with the referendum due to take place next month.

It’s great that we’ve finally reached a point where there’s a democratic vote on the issue, and the country will decide ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ on May 22.

Despite the forward strides in recent times, in some cases, it’s still extremely difficult for gay people to come out to their friends and family.

This poem sent into the Irish Examiner by Aoife O’Donnell from Donegal describes an individual’s experience, and we think a lot of people will relate to it.
