I was (insert word here) last night.
We’ve always had a way with language in Ireland and nowhere is that more evident than in the number of terms used in this country to describe the state of somebody who may have over-indulged on the wobbly water.
You could fill a dictionary with the amount of phrases we have to describe being drunk and said phrases tend to change depending on what part of the country you’re in.
Not surprisingly, as the capital city with the biggest population, Dublin has a bigger array of terms to describe a state of drunkenness than anywhere else in Ireland
Earlier today, publin.ie posted a selection of 36 phrases to describe drunkenness as taken from ‘Dublin pub life and lore’.

We recognise a lot of the terms above but we freely admit to having seen none of them before; splificated, maggoty and blithero are three of our new personal favourites.
Publin readers provided even more fantastic terms shortly afterwards and even though there are more than a few dozen descriptions between the terms above and the responses below, we reckon you wouldn’t have to look hard around the country to find 50 more.
