PICS: Two protesters in Donegal made their feelings known about Prince Charles’ visit

Paul Moore

Not everyone rolled out the red carpet.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall are currently in Donegal and they received a very warm welcome by the majority in attendance at their first official visit to the area.

The pair were in Belfast yesterday but decided to visit Donegal at the request of the Irish government in an effort to further solidify peaceful relations between Ireland and the UK.

The couple’s first stop was in Donegal town and the factory where the famous Donegal tweed is made.

This was followed by a trip to Donegal Castle, where they were greeted by Irish dancers and musicians. McGettigan’s butcher shop also played host to the Prince of Wales.

Not everyone was happy to see Prince Charles and Camilla though.

Newstalk reporter Sean Defoe was covering the Royal visit and he noticed two women in attendance with banners that read “This is our land, our country”, “Donegal Shamed” and “Patriots Dead”.

When Mr Defoe asked one of the protestors why they felt so strongly about the Royal visit, she asked him to “shove it up your hole”.
