Those of you who are active on Twitter may have come across an account called ‘The Irish For…‘
Far from just being a useful Leaving Cert resource, the account is constantly letting us know about obscure Irish translations of topical words, as well as interesting Irish phrases and nuances within the language.
Yesterday, the man behind the account realised that there is no Irish translation for the recent ‘spicebag’ phenomenon that has swept over the country in the last few years, quickly becoming a mainstay of our takeaway diets.
The options offered by the Twitter poll are Mála Spíosraí, Spaighaisbag, Mangán Blasta and Bia Átha Cliath (a play on Baile Átha Cliath, the Irish for Dublin).
Looks like there's no word in Irish for spicebag yet. That won't do. What should it be?
