Officials revealed that the district court also hit Keng Liang ‘Anson’ Wong with a 190,000 Ringgit (€42,000) fine.

Wong, who appeared in court last week, pleaded guilty to a charge of exporting the snakes without the necessary permit.

Wong was attempting to fly from Malaysia to Indonesia last month when his snake-filled bag split on a conveyer belt.

Wong, who has previously served a six-year stint behind bars in the US for running a wildlife trafficking ring, faced a maximum sentence of seven years.

Prosecuting officer Faridz Gohim said he is to enter talks with government authorities before deciding whether to appeal for a harsher sentence.
