What’s your magic number?
It’s a pretty common sitcom storyline… Two of the main characters get together and before long there will be an episode where they’re both arguing over who has had more sexual partners.
A new study has revealed that apparently the most dangerous answer to the question ‘How many people have you slept with?’ is… two. And that two includes your spouse.
The study, conducted by the University of Utah, found that about 28 percent of these marriages dissolved within five years; by comparison, 18 percent of marriages ended when the women had more than 10 premarital sexual partners.
This suggests that your marriage might hit the rocks much faster if you’ve only had one sexual partner beyond the one you currently share a bed with.
Nicholas Wolfinger, one of the scientists behind the study, speculated that when our partner has only had one other sexual partner, we compare ourselves to that one person more intensely. If they’ve had more than 10, the jealousy is less focused.
So if you were thinking about telling your partner you haven’t had many sexual partners, maybe you should go big instead. For the sake of your relationship.
