The last thing that anyone wants when they’re heading off on holiday is to be delayed at the airport. You want to arrive, glide through check in and security and spend the hour before your flight relaxing and browsing the duty-free, right?
Well the good news is that Aer Lingus have made it a little bit easier for you. If you’re planning on heading off on holidays soon, if you’re going to be flying with Aer Lingus and if you are in the possession of a smart phone, then get yourself online and download the Aer Lingus app.
The Irish Independent reports that the Aer Lingus app will allow travellers to check-in from their phones. This means that your boarding pass will then be delivered to your iPhone, Blackberry, Android or iPad and then all you have to do is simply scan your phone at the departures gate. There’s no paper, no struggling with an internet connection and dodgy computer and most importantly – no waiting.
Another plus? You’re less likely to lose or misplace your mobile phone than you are to accidentally throw away a print out with your boarding pass on it, so it’s much more convenient if you’re a bit scatter-brained when it comes to undertaking a journey. Basically all you’ll have to remember is your passport and luggage. Sorted.
What else can you do with the app? Well you can also pick your seats and keep track of any flight delays – much easier than having to search for the big information board, or trying to decipher what the announcer is saying over the intercom.
The app is currently available on all UK and European routes from Dublin airport and Shannon airport. Unfortunately you can’t use it at Cork airport just yet or on flights to the United States, but it’s only a matter of time before the service is widened.
If you’re planning on using the Aer Lingus app in the near future, here’s some helpful advice – make sure you take a screen grab of your boarding pass when its sent to your phone, or save it as a picture to your photo library. This way you’ll still be able to access it if you have no reception or need to produce it when you arrive at your destination.
So smartphone boarding passes – could this be the key to speedier, less stressful travel? It’s definitely a step in the right direction anyway.
