We Irish have a weird and wonderful relationship with the snow.
Someone once mused ‘What’s seldom is beautiful’ and this applies perfectly to our wonderment with all things snow here in Ireland. Look at the beautiful snow! It’s so snowy. And beautiful!
Something happens to the Irish when they encounter snow. Here are some instances:
Tipp man regrets decision to jump in the Philadelphia snow
This former Tipperary minor footballer was in Philadelphia when a huge snow storm hit the area. He was so excited, he ran out and jumped into it wearing nothing more than his jocks.
Using snow to be creative about protesting against water charges
We are nothing if not creative in this country. Not many people would use a snow sculpture as a means of protest, but this man did.

We are a hardy race of people. Sport is of great importance to us and a bit of snow isn’t going to stop our matches from going ahead. Even if it is a blizzard and renders conditions to almost impossible levels. These hurlers in Mullingar are made of tough stuff.

No snow-plough? No problem, just improvise
In countries used to snow they have the tools and machinery to deal with it. In Ireland we don’t really have the need for it such is the rarity of heavy snow, but when it does happen, we get creative and we improvise.
Some people are so amazed and excited that words are often hard to find.
Nature is a thing of wonder. So much wonder that often, we Irish find it hard to express ourselves so we use expletives instead. Just like this fellah.
