A new aftershave has been dubbed a ‘Marmite smell’, but not because you’ll either hate it or love it.
Burton-on-Trent is famous for a variety of different things and now it looks as if the smell of the place is worth bottling. A new ‘designer’ scent, which apparently smells of Marmite, leather, pickle and beer, has this the shelves and is expected to be a bit of a hit in the run up to Christmas. If the smell of burning rubber in the morning was added, we could safely call it Eau-de-Manly.
According to some, Burton-on-Trent smells of ale thanks to the surrounding hops fields and they were the inspiration to a new aftershave called Eau-de-Burton, which sells for £36.50 (€41.40).
Businesswoman, Victoria Brookes, who thinks the smell works brilliantly, concocted the idea, presumably after a few too many Marmite sambo’s… and beers.
She told the Telegraph, “Burton is known for its smell but not always in a good way. But the perfume smells really good – I have had lots of compliments from people.
“It is made up of Gourmand, representing Marmite and Branston Pickle, which were invented in Burton.
“It also has leather, representing the boots and footballs used at Burton Albion, and Ambra, inspired by amber nectar, the beer which made Burton famous worldwide.
“I was shocked at how good it was as that is not normally how you make a perfume.”
The smell might be your sort of thing if you come from ‘a land down under’ or if you so happen to be a fan of Marmite, which is quite unlikely. As for the rest of us, a ‘quick trip’ into Booths for a ‘tester’ will do nicely.
