We have a special surprise for you petrol diesel heads out there, in the form of the Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4 – the world’s first diesel electric hybrid.

Diesel engines have traditionally yielded less consumption then their petrol counterparts, which might have you asking: “Why hasn’t this been done before?”

That’s what Peugeot asked themselves, and their answer just happens to be the world’s first diesel electric car in the form of the 3008 HYbrid4.

The new 3008 HYbrid4 (pictured above) will see you burning just 3.8 litres for 100 km of driving (or 74 miles per gallon in old money).

That doesn’t sound too bad for one car. However, that’s the clever thing about the 3008 HYbrid4, as it’s more than just one car. The 3008 HYbrid4 allows you to choose from four different engine modes including: automatic, all-electric Zero Emissions, sport and 4WD modes. So you’ll be hard pushed to find somewhere the car wont be able to go.

The 3008 HYbrid4 2.0 HDi pumps out a descent 200bhp and emits just 99g of CO2 per kilometre. It will retail from €36,995, plus dealer delivery related charges and qualifies for Band A road tax of €160.

Standard equipment in the 3008 HYbrid4 includes an alarm and deadlocks, cruise control, speed limiter, climate control air con, 16” alloys, automatic headlights and wipers, front and rear electric windows, electric child locks, rear parking sensors, Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Do you remember when only seatbelts came as standard?

The next car to receive the new hybrid diesel technology will be the 508 RXH (which is like the 508 SW, just fancier). The 508 RXH will be a little bit higher off the ground to allow for the 4WD function and it’ll come with a lot of extra kit as standard.

If you’re not into estate cars then don’t worry – your time will come. JOE has recently learned from the experts in Peugeot that the 508 Saloon version will also receive the hybrid diesel engine in the not too distant future.

The 3008 HYbrid4 will hit Irish showrooms in April, but you can head down to your nearest dealer and pre-order the car now.

It has already been voted Diesel Car Magazine’s, Best Eco Car of the Year 2011 award and it was also presented a 2011 What Car? Green Car award, so you’re onto a winner – literally.
