Manchester’s very existence as a major city is thanks to the industrial revolution so the fantastic Museum of Science & Industry is well worth a visit. The massive museum, which is free to enter, covers the development of technology in the area and how the city was at the centre of huge growth.
If you fancy doing a bit of shopping and keeping the missus happy while you’re at it, the Trafford Centre is one of the biggest shopping centres in Europe and is a mere five-mile trek outside the city. It is very, very big though and can get pretty busy so be sure to establish a meeting point before you go wandering off on your own because it’s quite easy to get lost.
If you’re looking to get out and about in the evening, Deansgate is a particularly popular area of the city and is home to plenty of trendy pubs and clubs, while on a larger scale, the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena is one of the biggest venues in the UK and will play host to the likes of Beyonce, Drake, Justin Timberlake and Elbow over the coming weeks and months.
Of course, when you go to Manchester it is hard to escape the football and if there’s no match on while you’re there, tours of both Old Trafford and the Etihad Stadium are well worth a look, providing you have no animosity towards either club that is.
