This Dubliner may have written the most action-packed Westmeath-based Christmas story ever

Anyone ever wondered what Die Hard would be like in Mullingar?

Anyone ever wondered what Die Hard would be like in Mullingar?

Well, wonder no more because Irish writer Nick McGinley has just released a new story on Amazon entitled, Christmas Action Movies, and it sounds even more mental than Die Hard because it’s set in Mullingar.

The synopsis reads as follows: “A black comedy about a deranged movie-obsessed Irish criminal Richie Joyce who sets out to create his own ‘Christmas Action Movie’ by taking hostages at his local hardware shop on Christmas Eve”.

Its gets better…

“He’s a one-man crime wave, saddened by the tackier elements of the season, who needs to pull off a set piece crime to raise the tone. Nick McGinley’s long short story of bloody snowy mayhem is set in the Irish Midlands and plays with all the things movie fans love about action films set at Christmas time like Die Hard and Lethal Weapon.

Think Shane Black meets Elmore Leonard in Mullingar on Christmas Eve for a hot whiskey and a pint of stout.”

JOE has been to Mullingar and it’s an absolutely wonderful town so we really want to see this book turned into a movie.

We can already imagine a dramatic boat chase on Lough Owel, an epic shoot-out near the Cathedral of Christ the King and, of course, a cameo from Niall Horan.

The soundtrack should only be Joe Dolan of course; we see Oscars in this film’s future.
