Though if your primary goal in life is to have more sex, the chances are that you don’t have this character trait.
Two separate studies, published in the British Journal of Psychology, have determined that people who are selfless or altruistic are more likely to have sex, and more sexual partners.
One study showed that men who scored higher on the altruism scale reported more sexual partners in their lifetime, and more casual partners specifically.
The second study found that men, though not women, who were more charitable claimed more sexual partners in the past, and “among men and women, having had more casual sex partners in their lifetime, and more sex partners in the past year.”
According to the British Psychological Society, this harkens back to pre-historic times when hunter-gatherers who shared more of their meat would also have more sexual partners.
The researchers added the caveat that, of course, these results only imply correlation rather than causation – meaning that it is entirely possible that people are more altruistic because they get laid more often… Which makes a lot of sense, when you think about it.
